These are just a few of the things I worked on when I was a guest props artisan at Illinois Wesleyan University.  The play was Scrooge! The Musical and the designer was Curtis Trout, the Director of the School of Theatre Arts.

I built and painted this puppet theatre.

The picture on the right depicts how the puppets were used by the actor.  Judy has a bat attached to her right hand that she pounded Punch with.  Part of the time the actor was hidden, then he came into view with the puppets to react to Scrooge's entrance.

I sculpted the Punch and Judy heads after researching them on the internet.

The following is a chicken puppet that was used for the play My Three Angels at the Florida Repertory Theatre.  First I sewed the body from muslin, added the head and feet of a rubber chicken, then covered the whole thing with feathers.  The actor carried it across the stage under his arm with the wing flapping.

One of the projects I liked most at Illinois Wesleyan University was building and painting the Punch and Judy theater.   There was no color elevation for this theater, so I created it from a line drawing of the plan and designed the final look to fit with the color scheme of the show.  The proscenium is cut from luaun, the sides are luaun and the front is muslin.

For this picture, the theater is sitting on the set in front of three of the six flats depticting houses and the drop of the town is upstage.  The girl in the photo is a student.

Left is a picture of the back of the theatre.  Because the sidewalls needed to be folded flat I constructed all three pieces using half-lap joints.  There is a tumbler on the right side where the side attaches so that when the two sides are folded closed one door lies on top of the other and is flat.
