I designed, built and painted the set below for 5th Sun.  I had five days from build to opening night.  I drew the design on the platform and one student helped me paint it with acrylic paint.

I carved the crucifix out of gray foam.  It was then coated with a layer if glue, then painted with acrylic paint.  It is attached with hot glue to the old broom handle I found and painted gold.

6' ROUND MAYAN CALENDAR

PLATFORM FOR 5TH SUN

These are two of the boxes that were used for the gods.  I drew a different Mayan figure for each box and using a jigsaw cut a 1/4" wide "line" in the top of the boxes so they could be lit with lights from inside.  They were sponge painted with acrylic paint.

The alter was a design combination of Mayan and Catholic culture.  The colums and pyramid are made from luaun.  The columns were painted with triangles I made from kitchen sponges.
