I was the charge artist for Pericles and worked with a crew of eight students.  The majority of them had never painted before.  They learned how to paint with sawdust in paint and how to drybrush a wood design.  In addition to that I also taught them how to work as a team to sponge paint together and create one unified design.  After the base of the shield was dry it only took two and a half hours to draw and paint the tree.  There were two crew members who helped with the painting.

SHIELD

The shield was made from stryofoam with muslin glued on the face of it.  The walls on the sides of the shield were made from luaun and covered with a mixture of paint and sawdust for texture.  It stood 20' tall and was 17'11" wide.
